Kelly Johnson

Kelly grew up in Lyle Washington and attended Washington State University - Go Cougs! Earning a BS in Biology, she moved to California and embarked upon her career in the wine industry. Working in the Napa Valley for 13 years, she developed skill in winemaking, enology, lab management, ISO and regulatory systems. These skill eventually allowed her to return to the Columbia Gorge. “I wanted to move back home. Wine has allowed me to do that.”

Darren Michaels

Darren’s first love was biochemistry and infectious disease research at Scripps Immunology, but found that working with non-dangerous wine and beverages was more to his liking. First as a TTB-certified wine chemist at Trinchero Family Estates, developing novel analytical methods, flavor and wine development, instrumentation and ISO method development. He moved to become the manager of central coast offices of Vinquiry (Enartis), commercial wine and juice laboratory and winemaking product support, ISO 17025 auditor and then as Director of Enology and Quality at Terravant Winery (Summerland), a custom crush/alternating proprietor with commercial lab, HAACP and ISO development, novel product development project manager, and quality control system management. He moved to the pacific northwest as technical winemaker and fermentation outside expert for Laffort and Scott Labs and supported 1000+ clients from North America in beverage consultation and support through BRL since 2014. He has been teaching wine analysis and wine and beverage fermentation at college-level since 2008.
